The quran clearly states that a husband should beat his wife (4:34) can any muslim explain why ?

Why the heck would you spend your money to upkeep a wife because you love her and then destroy her looks by beating her. Seems like someone here is out of control. Surely the God supreme is above all that in this Modern age...oh that's right, she can wear a burka and you can forget about your primal weaknesses. The "Twig" is probably lost in translation.
