Does lemon juice make your hair blonde ?

I really want blonde highlights but mu num said no bleach so i was wondering if lemon juice can do blonde highlights i have a gingery colour hair ... other questions : does it work straight away , how lond does it take and how often do you have to do it to maintain the blonde thanks ! =)
